🚀 Nomination created: A conversation between Dario Amodei and Hard Fork would bring the CEO of Anthropic’s perspective on frontier AI development and safety straight to the show that tracks tech's biggest debates.
Aug 5, 2026
📡 Why now: With AI scaling still accelerating and policymakers scrutinizing frontier labs, Amodei’s voice offers a timely look at how the industry is navigating its own creation.

Why Their Voice Would Be Valuable
Conducted a long-form, widely viewed podcast interview with Dario Amodei about AGI and Anthropic, making him a major amplifier who can direct his large tech audience to Hard Fork.
From the recent hard fork podcast: > Dario Amodei > Yeah. So I’ve been watching this for 10 years. I’ve been in the field for 10 years and was kind of interested in AI even before then. And my view, at almost every stage up to the last few months, has been we’re in this awkward
Agree with him or not, the (oddly popular on here!) take that Dario Amodei is some kind of bumbling Silicon Valley naïf who couldn't get a deal with the Pentagon done because he doesn't understand politics seems entirely wrong. His favorite book is "The Making of the Atomic
"You can actually have both. There are ways to surgically and carefully address the risks without slowing down the benefits very much, if at all." Hard Fork Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, discusses the new Claude 3.7 Sonnet model, the AI arms race with China, and his hopes and
It's Hard Fork Friday! This week on the show, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei joins to discuss building the most anxious company in AI. Then, I force Kevin to watch Netflix's abominable "Deep Fake Love" 😈 nytimes.com/2023/07/21/pod…

This week on Hard Fork: • Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stops by to talk about AI safety, and the anxiety of building things you don't fully understand • Then, Casey forces me to watch the truly wretched Netflix dating show "Deep Fake Love" nytimes.com/2023/07/21/pod…
Why is Dario Amodei so weirdly hawkish on the Chinese?
From the recent hard fork podcast: > Dario Amodei > Yeah. So I’ve been watching this for 10 years. I’ve been in the field for 10 years and was kind of interested in AI even before then. And my view, at almost every stage up to the last few months, has been we’re in this awkward
The Opus/Fable overlap is the first glimpse of the model picker turning into a scheduler. In a February 2025 Hard Fork interview, Dario Amodei said separate normal and reasoning models felt like giving a person “two brains.” We do not tell another person which cognitive mode to
Funnily enough, I was just listening to the Hard Fork podcast with Dario Amodei and he was like "uhh we don't care that much if Claude tells you how to do something you find on Google. We care about Claude coming up with NOVEL stuff.", and I doubt he'd have said that a year ago.
And it didn't matter. It had no effect. People didn't stop using DeepSeek, and more importantly, nothing happened, so even if the safety people freak out because DeepSeek will tell you anything, it proves that there's nothing to worry about, which causes the window to shift
The same is true of Alex Karp! “I’ve spent a lot of time with Dario,” Karp said in the company’s all-hands meeting that aired Friday, adding Amodei is “not the caricature that many people, most Americans, believe.” youtube.com/watch?v=BzY8Eq…

Has Your Apocalyptic Optimism Survived Contact With Reality?
Dario's 'Scenes from the AI Apocalypse' essay was a techno-utopian vision where AI cures disease and brings prosperity. Since he wrote it, we've seen election deepfakes, youth mental health crises, and massive energy use. Does he still believe that sunny outcome is the most likely one, or was it aspirational PR?
What Evaluation Would Have Kept Claude in the Lab?
Dario has repeatedly called on governments to mandate pre-deployment safety tests. I'd love him to get concrete: what exactly would a red-team have to show in its report — what score, what example — to convince him to hold a model back, even at enormous business cost?
Are You Racing Yourself Into Unsafety?
Anthropic has raised billions and keeps shipping bigger models. But if safety is the absolute priority, why not take 18 months off and optimize interpretability before scaling further? What's your actual answer to the charge that you're participating in the race you preach against?
Why Their Voice Would Be Valuable
Interviewed Dario Amodei at length on The Ezra Klein Show about AI safety and Anthropic, and as a New York Times colleague he regularly engages with the same tech and society themes Hard Fork covers.
